Ryan Lines: Survived Sepsis, Age 1

Ryan Lines was a happy, beautiful little boy who had just turned one when he started coming down with flu-like symptoms in December, 2022. His symptoms deteriorated quickly and he became very weak, not wanting to walk. We brought him to the local emergency room twice and, as his condition worsened, he was flown to the nearest major hospital in New South Wales. On arrival at the hospital, we were told that Ryan was in severe septic shock and, unfortunately, he went into cardiac arrest. CPR was performed for 10 minutes. We were told our little boy wasn’t going to make it.

Magically, Ryan came back to us, and it was confirmed that he had Strep A, which had progressed to septic shock.

Ryan has many factors against him, collapsed lung and multiple dialysis treatments to help his kidneys and he faces many treatments to try and help him. Due to everything, Ryan, unfortunately, has had two major surgeries to amputate both of his legs below the knee and surgery to amputate all his fingertips and some fingers.

We have a long road ahead, but we feel strong because we have so much love and support around us.

Ryan’s story is told by his mom Jessica Lines.
