Sepsis Stories
Lieke Bosgraaf: Died of Sepsis, Age 2

Story told by, Meran Bosgraaf, Father of Lieke Bosgraaf

Lieke was our beautiful little girl, full of joy, energy, and love. She was only 2.5 years old when our lives changed forever.

On January 4 of this year, our daughter died from sepsis.

In the days before she passed away, we visited doctors multiple times because we felt something was seriously wrong. Lieke became increasingly ill, weak, and unresponsive. But no one recognized the signs of sepsis in time.

When we finally arrived at the hospital, everything happened incredibly fast. Within just two hours, we had to say goodbye to our daughter.

Before this happened to us, we had never even heard of sepsis.

After losing Lieke, we founded Stichting Voor Lieke, which means Foundation For Lieke. Our mission is to raise awareness about sepsis, improve recognition of the symptoms, share information, support education, and contribute to campaigns, media attention, and documentaries.

We do all of this with one goal: to prevent other families from experiencing the same unimaginable loss.

If we can save even one life through Lieke’s story, then her life, and everything we do in her name, will never be in vain.

We are now on a mission to spread awareness of sepsis in Lieke’s memory.
